Instructions

  1. Sauté Onions: In a large skillet, sauté diced onions until onions are translucent
  2. Add Ground Beef: Add in ground beef and stir until just cooked
  3. Add Tomatoes and Tomato Sauce and Simmer: Add in diced tomatoes and tomato sauce, add salt and pepper to taste, allow to simmer over long heat.
  4. Cook Pasta: As sauce simmers, cook elbow macaroni according to package instructions.
  5. Mix Macaroni with Sauce: Once macaroni is cooked, mix macaroni into the simmering sauce until evenly distributed.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Serve hot garnished with fresh parsley and shredded dairy-free mozzarella cheese.

Notes

Onion: I used a yellow onion, but you may also use red onions or white onions.

Ground Beef: I used ground beef, but feel free to use ground turkey, ground chicken or ground pork if you prefer.

Tomato Sauce: You can make your own tomato sauce, or use store-bought tomato sauce instead.

Tomato: I used a large Roma tomato, but you can use any tomato you have on hand.

Gluten-Free Macaroni: I used gluten-free elbow macaroni pasta, but you can use other types of gluten-free short pasta if you prefer (such as gluten-free rotini or gluten-free penne).

Parsley: I like garnishing this gluten-free hamburger with fresh chopped parsley, but you can also use chopped chives or spring onions if you prefer.

Mozzarella Cheese: I used shredded dairy-free mozzarella cheese to keep the recipe dairy-free. You may also use other dairy-free cheeses such as shredded dairy-free cheddar cheese. Alternatively, if you are not lactose-intolerant, feel free to use normal shredded cheese instead.

Storing/Freezing: To store, place in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat in the microwave or in a pan on the stovetop before eating. To freeze, place the gluten-free hamburger helper in a freezer-safe container and freeze for up to 2 months. Let thaw completely overnight in the refrigerator before reheating in the microwave or on the stovetop.
