ON CHOOSING WHAT WE EAT & DRINK
“Don’t eat anything your great-great grandmother wouldn’t recognize as food. There are a great many food-like items in the supermarket your ancestors wouldn’t recognize as food.. stay away from these”
– Michael Pollan,
American author & journalist
I know it’s little late to be making resolutions in the middle of April, when the year has already begun a long while ago.
Yet good decisions are never too late to be made.
There is a necessity for us to return to what is natural, what is healthy, what is good for us.
There is a need for us to realize that we have a choice in what we eat; the ingredients we use to cook our foods, the drinks we consume and the snacks we choose.
My resolution is to drink as little soft drinks (or artificially sweetened drinks) as possible. I want to go back to drinking water, juices, and natural beverages, like green tea, rice tea, you get the trend.
I also hope to influence others to do the same.
I want to do this because I’ve realized how much the habit of consuming soft drinks affects our health – it makes us addicted to sweet drinks; we’re lost the thirst for water, the purest form of liquid our body requires; we’re always looking for a sugar high; and obesity is increasing in so many developed countries.
So when I had a couple of fruits left over from making these delicious baked fish fillets in citrus & vegetable sauce, I decided to use these fruits for a drink.
A cooling, refreshing beverage bursting with citrus tastes and aromas. A drink meant to be enjoyed guilt-free.
A delicious, quick, easy, put-your-leftover-fruits-together kind of drink.
