Description
Crispy on the outside, tender inside, these tasty homemade turkey nuggets make a healthy snack or appetizer that the whole family will love. Gluten-free and dairy-free too.
Ingredients
- 1.5 pounds boneless, skinless turkey breast, cut into 1-1.5-inch pieces
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup gluten-free panko breadcrumbs
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
- 2 eggs
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- Pound Turkey Meat: Place the cut turkey breast pieces on a cutting board, cover them with plastic wrap, and gently pound with a rolling pin or meat mallet to flatten slightly until the pieces are evenly thick (this ensures that the nuggets cooks evenly). Season with salt.
- Toast Bread Crumbs: Toast the gluten-free panko breadcrumbs in a dry pan over low heat for 3–4 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Prepare Breading Mixture: Mix the toasted gluten-free panko breadcrumbs with ground black pepper and granulated garlic.
- Dip Turkey Pieces in Egg: In a bowl, whisk the eggs and add the turkey pieces.
- Coat in Breadcrumb Mixture: Coat each turkey piece in the breadcrumb mixture after dipping it in the egg.
- Place Nuggets on Baking Sheet: Line a baking tray with aluminum foil and spray with nonstick cooking spray. Place the nuggets on top. Lightly drizzle with olive oil.
- Bake Until Crispy: Bake at 375F (190C) for about 20 minutes. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
Turkey Breast: I used skinless, boneless turkey breast. However, if you prefer, you can also use chicken breast if you prefer.
Panko Breadcrumbs: I used gluten-free panko breadcrumbs to keep this recipe dairy-free. However, if you are not Celiac or gluten-intolerant, go ahead and use regular panko bread crumbs instead.
Seasonings: To add flavor, I’ve used ground black pepper and granulated garlic. However, feel free to add other condiments that you prefer (such as onion powder, or even ground paprika for a kick of heat).
Eggs: The eggs help to bind the breading mixture with the turkey meat, so make sure to include them in.
Olive Oil: I used extra virgin olive oil, but you can also use other types of vegetable oil (such as sunflower oil, corn oil, avocado oil, etc).
