Recipe Notes + Substitutions:

  • Salmon: Make sure to use fresh, firm salmon that will hold its shape once cut into cubes.
  • Parmesan: I used dairy-free parmesan to keep this recipe dairy-free. However, if you are not lactose-intolerant, go ahead and use regular parmesan instead.
  • Seasonings: For flavor, I’ve used a mix of smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and ground black pepper. However, feel free to use your favorite seasonings if you prefer.
  • Hot Honey: I’ve used store-bought hot honey, but you can easily make your own instead (by simmering honey and dried chili flakes).
  • Chives: I like sprinkling these crispy hot honey salmon bites with chopped fresh chives for a beautiful pop of color. Alternatively, you may use chopped fresh green onions if you prefer.

How to Make Hot Honey Salmon Bites:

A glass bowl with grated cheese and seasonings.
Prepare Seasoning: In a small bowl, combine the grated dairy-free Parmesan cheese, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper and salt. Mix well and set aside.
Cutting fresh salmon into cubes
Cut Salmon into Cubes: Remove the skin from the salmon fillets and cut the salmon into evenly sized cubes.
Seasoned salmon cubes in glass bowl
Toss Salmon Cubes in Seasoning: Add the salmon cubes to the seasoning mixture, gently tossing until well coated.
Seasoned salmon cubes in air fryer.
Place in Air Fryer Basket: Preheat the air fryer to 400F (200C). Place the salmon cubes in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure to leave space between the salmon pieces.

Air Fry Until Golden: Air fry the salmon cubes at 400F for 8-10 minutes, or until golden and cooked through.

Drizzle with Hot Honey: Remove from the air fryer, drizzle with hot honey, and garnish with chopped chives before serving.

Dish by Dish Tips:

  • Remove Salmon Skin: Make sure to remove the salmon skin before cutting the salmon into cubes to ensure that the salmon cooks up evenly on all sides.
  • Pat Salmon Dry: To ensure the best crisp texture, use a paper towel to pat the salmon dry before tossing it in the seasoning. If not, you will end up with a soggy exterior.
  • Don’t Overcrowd: Be sure to leave space between the salmon cubes – if the salmon pieces are too close together they will not crisp up well.
  • No Air Fryer? If you don’t own an air fryer, you can also pan-fry the seasoned salmon cubes in a lightly greased large skillet over medium high heat.
