Delicious and Healthy Chocolate Fruit Dip
Now that it’s summertime and fresh berries are all over, we’re filling our mouths with the season’s freshest berries, eating them on their own, or baked into something delicious.
And we also love dipping berries into a chocolate fruit dip.
But I don’t want to share a chocolate dip that was too rich and decadent (that would be more like chocolate fondue), because I feel the warmer weather calls for something lighter.. So this healthy chocolate dip was born!
Chocolate lovers, you’re going to love it!
Made with Greek yogurt instead of heavy cream, this chocolate yogurt dip is a healthier option to indulge in this season! It’s the perfect dessert dip for potlucks, gatherings, and holidays such as Memorial Day, 4th of July or even Valentine’s day!
Why This Recipe Works:
- Simple Ingredients: All you need is two simple ingredients and this creamy dip comes together in just 10 minutes (excluding chilling time)!
- No Cooking Involved: Melting the chocolate (either in the microwave or using the double-boiler) and then mixing it with the yogurt is all you need to do!
- Totally Gluten-Free with Dairy-Free Options: The best part is that this recipe is 100% gluten-free, and it’s possible to make it dairy-free too. This means that even those with Celiac disease or gluten or lactose intolerances can enjoy it too!

Recipe Notes + Substitutions
- Yogurt: I used plain Greek yogurt. If you are lactose-intolerant, go ahead and use dairy-free Greek yogurt instead.
- Type of Chocolate: I like using semi-sweet chocolate with a high cocoa content for a more intense flavor and health benefits. If you are lactose-intolerant, go ahead and use dairy-free chocolate instead.
- Garnishing: I like using chopped chocolate and chopped almonds for garnishing this chocolate fruit dip. However, feel free to experiment with other ingredients such as other unsalted chopped nuts (such as walnuts, pistachios, hazelnuts, cashew nuts), shredded coconut, or dried fruits to add an extra touch of flavor and texture.
How to Make this Healthy Chocolate Dip (Step by Step):
1. Melt Chocolate:
Melt the chocolate in a heat-resistant bowl. You can do this by heating the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in the microwave in short intervals, stirring every 15 seconds to prevent burning. Alternatively, you can melt it using a double boiler.
2. Mix Melted Chocolate and Yogurt
In a bowl, combine the Greek yogurt with the melted chocolate, making sure the chocolate is not too hot to avoid curdling the yogurt. Mix well until fully incorporated and the mixture has a uniform color.
3. Chill Dip Till Firm
You can serve the chocolate Greek yogurt fruit dip directly if desired or chill it for at least 30 minutes to firm up and allow the flavors to blend.
4. Garnish and Serve
Transfer the dip to a bowl and sprinkle chocolate and/or ground almonds on top.
Serve the healthy chocolate dip with fresh fruits such as strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries (or your choice of fruits), or accompany it with graham crackers if you like.
Dish by Dish Tips/Tricks:
- Flavor Add-Ins: If you prefer a more intense chocolate flavor, you can add a bit of vanilla extract or dissolve a teaspoon of instant coffee in the melted chocolate to enhance the flavor.
- Chocolate Temperature: Ensure that the chocolate is melted but not too hot when mixing it with the Greek yogurt to avoid curdling.
- Chill to Firm: While you can technically eat the dip straight after assembly, I find that chilling the dip beforehand helps to firm it up and allow the flavors to blend better. This is especially useful if you plan to serve the dip in warm weather.
- Storing: Store any leftover chocolate dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for a couple of days. Make sure to give it a quick stir before serving again.
