I Love the Air Fryer
Cooking with the air fryer makes things super easy – you use less oil (compared to deep frying), there are no oil splatters on the kitchen walls, and there’s minimal clean up!
Air Fried Sweet Potato Wedges – The Perfect Snack, Side or Appetizer
These sweet potatoes wedges make a great snack or side dish, or even an appetizer – they are both sweet and savory at the same time.
Perfect for serving at your Game day party, as a delicious side dish with meat mains (especially pork), or snacking on their own.
I personally love enjoy eating them with ketchup, garlic aioli, or Sriracha sauce.

Recipe Notes + Substitutions:
- Sweet Potatoes: I used orange sweet potatoes, but you may also may also use yellow or purple sweet potatoes. Alternatively, you may use regular potatoes if you prefer to make air fryer potato wedges.
- Dried Herbs: Feel free to use any type of dried herbs you like (such as dried parsley, dried oregano, dried rosemary etc).
- Granulated Garlic: I find that adding a bit of granulated garlic adds more oomph to the sweet potato wedges. You may also use garlic powder or minced garlic if you like.
- Coriander: I like adding a bit of ground coriander for extra flavor. Go ahead and leave it out if you don’t like coriander.
- Olive Oil: I like using extra virgin olive oil for its flavor. However, you may also use another type of vegetable oil (such as sunflower oil, corn oil, canola oil, avocado oil, melted coconut oil etc).
How to Make Sweet Potato Wedges in Air Fryer (Step by Step):
1. Peel and Cut Sweet Potatoes
Peel sweet potatoes, wash and dry them. On a cutting board, use a sharp knife to cut the sweet potatoes into thin wedges and place them in a large mixing bowl.
(If you prefer, you may cut them into thick wedges, but it will take longer for them to cook through).
2. Season Sweet Potatoes
Add salt, spices, herbs, and also pour in olive oil. Mix everything thoroughly until sweet potato wedges are evenly coated.
3. Preheat Air Fryer
Preheat the air fryer to 380F and spray the air fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray or olive oil spray.
4. Place Sweet Potatoes in Air Fryer Basket
Place the sweet potato sticks in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
5. Cook Until Ready
Air fry the sweet potato wedges at 380F for 7 minutes. After the first 7 minutes, flip the sweet potato sticks with a spatula and air fry for another 5-6 minutes.
6. Serve and Enjoy!
Serve the air fryer sweet potatoes right away with your favorite dipping sauce.
Dish by Dish Tips/Tricks
- Cook in Single Layer: Sweet potatoes usually don’t crisp up very easily, so to get crispy sweet potato wedges, make sure to place the sweet potato wedges in a single layer in the air fryer basket to ensure that there is space for the hot air to circulate properly so that they crisp up as much as they can. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook the sweet potatoes in 1 or 2 batches.
- Cut into Cubes: If you prefer, you can also use sweet potato cubes instead of wedges.
- Optional Seasonings: Feel free to use other seasonings such as bagel seasoning, Italian seasoning, onion powder or if you like a bit of heat, add a sprinkle of cayenne pepper, ground paprika, black pepper or even chili powder.
Recipe FAQs:
To store any leftover sweet potato wedges, place them in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat the wedges in the air fryer at 350F for a few minutes until crispy before eating.
One of the most common reasons that sweet potato wedges don’t turn out crispy, but are soggy instead, is because there wasn’t enough space around each wedge for it to crisp up properly. It’s better to cook less wedges at a time, to ensure that they air fry instead of steam.
