The Easiest Air Fryer Green Beans
And of course I had to use the air fryer to cook green beans too!
Especially since we’re heading into holiday season, and green beans make a tasty side dish for any main dish at the holiday dinner table!
Plus, they’re just incredibly easy to make…!
When Are Green Beans in Season?
While you are usually able to get green beans at the supermarkets almost all year round, they are mostly found fresh at farmers’ markets from May to October.
Why This Recipe Works:
- Simple Ingredients: All you require for this basic gluten-free green beans recipe are a few simple ingredients that are easily accessible from the local grocery store.
- Super Easy to Make: A few minutes of prep time is all you need for these gluten-free green beans and you can let the air fryer do the rest of the work!
- Little Oil Used: You only need 1 tablespoon of oil for this recipe, which isn’t much compared to if you were to deep fry or pan-fry!
- Flexible: Simple enough for a weeknight dinner, yet also perfect as part of a holiday meal, I know the whole family will enjoy this easy green bean recipe!
- Totally Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free and Vegan: The best part is that these easy air fryer green beans are 100% gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan, which means that even those with Celiac disease, or gluten or lactose intolerances will be able to enjoy them!
Ingredients You’ll Need:
Here’s a visual overview of the ingredients required for this air fryer green beans recipe.
(For exact measurements and quantities, please scroll down to the recipe card at the bottom of this post.)
Recipe Notes/Substitutions:
- Green Beans: I used fresh green beans, but feel free to use frozen green beans for convenience if you prefer. If using frozen green beans, simply extend the cook time in the air fryer for 2 to 3 minutes longer. You can also use French green beans (haricot verts), or string beans. (I do NOT recommend using canned green beans as they will not produce the same result!)
- Oil: In this easy recipe, I use sunflower oil because I always have a bottle of sunflower oil on hand. You may also use another vegetable oil (such as olive oil, sesame oil, melted coconut oil, or avocado oil) or melted vegan butter if you prefer. Alternatively, if you are not lactose-intolerant, feel free to use melted butter or ghee instead.
- Salt: I use normal salt, but feel free to use a flavored salt or even Himalayan pink salt.
How to Cook Green Beans in the Air Fryer (Step by Step):
1. Preheat
Preheat air fryer to 390F (200C) and spray the air fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray.
2. Wash and Cut Green Beans
Wash the green beans before trimming off the ends and then cutting the green beans into evenly sized pieces (approximately 4 inches long).
3. Toss Ingredients Together
In a large mixing bowl, toss the cut green beans together with the oil and salt, mixing well until the green beans are evenly coated.
4. Transfer to Air Fryer Basket
Transfer the green beans to the preheated air fryer basket.
5. Cook and Toss
Cook for 6 to 8 minutes, making sure to toss them every 2 minutes until the gluten-free green beans are evenly brown.
6. Garnish and Serve
Serve the tender green beans with shredded vegan mozzarella cheese, vegan parmesan cheese, nutritional yeast or gluten-free panko breadcrumbs if desired (optional).
Dish by Dish Tips/Tricks:
- Do Not Overcrowd: I recommend placing the green beans in one single layer (or two layers max) in your air fryer basket so that there is enough space for the hot air to circulate and so the green beans cook evenly. If your air fryer basket is very small, simply cook the green beans in two different batches (do NOT overcrowd!).
- Optional Condiments/Herbs: Feel free to flavor the green beans with condiments of choice (such as garlic powder, onion powder, ground black pepper, red pepper flakes), or even with herbs (such as rosemary or thyme) if you prefer. You may also sprinkle sesame seeds on top for garnishing.
- For a Brighter Flavor: Feel free to add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and lemon zest to this healthy side dish for a brighter flavor profile.
Recipe FAQs:
If you have leftover green beans, place the gluten-free green beans in an airtight container and store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the air fryer for 2 to 3 few minutes before eating.
