Even after using it for a few years, it still doesn’t cease to surprise me that the air fryer makes foods so crispy with so little (or no) oil at all.

Making Hard Boiled Eggs in the Air Fryer
While I knew you could cook plenty of different foods in the air fryer, one that really surprised me was hard boiled eggs.
The traditional method of making boiled eggs requires boiling water, but apparently with air frying, water isn’t even necessary since the circulating hot air can cook the eggs just as well.
I’m pretty sure this is the easiest way to cook hard boiled eggs, and it is definitely my new favorite way of cooking eggs, which are a great source of protein when you need a quick protein boost.
Why This Recipe Works
- Super Easy: In this easy recipe, the air fryer does all the hard work! Just preheat it, cook the eggs, and voilà! These eggs are ready in just minutes. Even if it’s your first time making these eggs, they will come out perfect.
- No Boiling Required: Unlike traditional hard-boiled eggs, there’s no water or boiling needed in this easy air fryer recipe.
- Totally Gluten-Free and Dairy-Free: Naturally 100% gluten-free and dairy-free, this hard boiled eggs recipe can be enjoyed by those with Celiac disease or those with gluten or lactose intolerances too.
Ingredients You’ll Need:
All you need for this air fryer eggs recipe is literally just large eggs.
How to Make Air Fryer Boiled Eggs (Step by Step)
1. Preheat
Preheat the air fryer for 2 to 3 minutes until temperature reaches 275F (135C).
2. Add Eggs to Air Fryer Basket
Place the eggs in the air fryer basket, making sure to leave space between each, then close the air fryer and cook for 12 to 15 minutes (12 minutes for medium boiled eggs, and 15 for hard boiled).
3. Place Eggs in Cold Water
Once cooked, transfer the eggs to a large bowl of cold water with ice, and let them sit in the ice bath for at least 5 minutes until cooled.
4. Roll Eggs Over Hard Surface
Use your palm to roll the cooled hard boiled eggs over a hard surface until the shell cracks.
5. Peel Eggs
Peel the eggs and throw away the egg shells.
6. Cut, Garnish and Enjoy
Cut the hard boiled eggs in half, garnish with a sprinkle of salt and freshly ground black pepper and a drizzle of olive oil, and enjoy!
Dish by Dish Tips/Tricks
- Vary Cooking Time for Softer or Harder Eggs: Cook the eggs in the air fryer for 15 minutes for totally hard boiled eggs, or 12 minutes for medium boiled eggs (with a softer egg white and softer yolk).
- How to Enjoy These Air Fryer Eggs: You can either eat these hard boil eggs on their own for a quick breakfast with a drizzle of olive oil, salt and freshly ground black pepper, or you can use them to make a great snack such as egg salad sandwiches too. Alternatively, you can slice the eggs and toss them with your favorite salads (think potato salad) for an extra boost of protein!
- Seasoning Options: I’ve seasoned these cooked eggs with just salt, pepper and olive oil, but feel free to play around and use bagel seasoning, ground paprika, crushed red pepper flakes, or your favorite seasonings! You can also eat it with a squeeze of hot sauce (such as our homemade sriracha chili sauce).
Recipe FAQs
Storing: If not eating immediately, place the cooled hard boiled eggs (either peeled or not) in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
If you prefer soft-boiled eggs with a soft yolk in the center, simply reduce the cook time to just 10 minutes.
